Company History

In the mid-Meiji era, the current president's great-grandfather, Konishi Bunkichi, established trading with Hong Kong from the current location and also began importing raw rattan materials.

In 1918, the current president's grandfather, Konishi Tomojiro, took over the company as "Konishi Tomojiro Shouten". After the Great Kanto Earthquake and war damage, the company was reorganized as "Konishi Trading Co., Ltd." in December 1956, with Konishi Tomojiro taking over as president. He expanded his import sources of rattan raw materials to Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, contributing to the development of developing countries. On April 29, 1972, he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Fifth Class.

In December 1972, a new 8-story steel-framed office building was completed and work began on the real estate management department. Later, on July 3, 1981, in order to distinguish the real estate department from the import/export trading and rattan business departments, the company changed its name to "Konishi Estate Co., Ltd." At the same time, a new company called "Konishi Boueki Company Limited." was established, and the current president's father, Konishi Hiroji, was appointed president and took over the import/export and rattan business departments of the former Konishi Boueki Company Limited.

On May 15, 1985, he worked hard to establish the Tokyo Rattan Business Cooperative and to have it designated as a traditional craft of Tokyo, and on July 18, 1986, rattan crafts were designated as a traditional craft of Tokyo by the Governor of Tokyo.

On July 1, 1993, Yoshimasa Konishi became the representative director.
On November 10, 1994, he became a council member of the Taito Branch of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

On October 19, 2008, he was appointed as the fifth chairman of the Tokyo Rattan Business Cooperative Association and at the same time became chairman of the National Federation of Rattan Commerce and Industry Associations. On April 7, 2009, in order to revitalize the association and develop the industry, he changed the name of the association to the Rattan Business Cooperative Association, a position he holds to the present day.
